A small activity into a grand dream

Everyday observing people whose homes were the filthy streets and whose jobs were to beg, beg, and beg indefatigably, I developed a sense of duty to contribute to the society that will help these unprivileged people in impoverished countries when I resided in Pakistan.

Every week teaching Korean alphabets to two Japanese-Korean girls who could barely say anything other than 'hello', 'goodbye', and 'thank you' rooted the desire in my heart to share my knowledge with and benefit others.

Every Friday's after-school AP Chemistry session pleased me unlike it distressed other classmates, for I enjoyed and excelled in maths and sciences.

I pondered upon how I could merge my penchants with my academic and personal strengths. And the dream of becoming a biomedical engineer showed itself and took a permanent place in my mind. It is a career that requires years of studying and practicing. It lays out my future with endless strenuous work and experiments. Yet it is a dream that I will not give up. Why? Because I know that my ambition can achieve a world in which countless less fortunate people can be aided and made happy.

  1. DahSom, this is a great and concise blogpost on how you became interested with chemistry. It's interesting to see how you have hybrided your academic interests with your talent! Although biomedical engineering cane be difficult, I am sure that you will stick through with difficulties you may face!

  2. DahSom I really like how you went from acting out on one of your passions to finally realizing your goals and reams for the remainder of your life. Your piece flowed well, with very advanced diction such as "penchant". I wish the the best for your future.
